One-day Tour Extension to the City of Sinuiju

Sinuiju +1 Day Trip Extension

Paektu Cultural Exchange is able to arrange an extra day to explore the border city of Sinuiju when departing the DPRK by train to Beijing (or Dandong or Shenyang).

About Sinuiju

Situated in the DPRK’s most northwestern point is the little, but not insignificant, city of Sinuiju. Sprawling on the Chinese side, just across the Amnok River, is the city of Dandong. A bridge fittingly named the Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge connects these two border cities and, not surprisingly, this is where a great deal of the DPRK’s international trade happens.

A day trip to Sinuiju presents visitors the opportunity to observe a successful cosmetic factory, view the process of importing and exporting goods to and from China, as well as watch the new infrastructure and business developments taking place in this city now well-known for trade and logistics. In Sinuiju you can also mingle with locals at the central square with its grand statues, visit a museum to learn about the revolutionary feats of the leadership, see an adorable performance by kindergartners, and find out more about the history of this up and coming urban center.

Day One

Day one of this extension begins where your previous tour normally would enter China, instead of crossing the border, we can remain in the DPRK for an additional day and explore Sinuiju. Our local DPRK Partner will take you first to Central Square where you will see statues which pay tribute to Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il. Following this is a stop at Sinuiju Revolutionary Museum, a museum focused on regional revolutionary history. Then you will make a visit to the Sinamri Cooperative Farm and learn about local farming practices and observe lives of Koreans working in rural areas on a model farm.

To finish off the day is a short drive to Dongrim City where you will take a refreshing hike up the mountain to view the Dongrim Waterfalls.  After checking into the newly built Deluxe Dongrim Hotel, (a fine example of a successful joint venture project with Chinese tourism partners) one can choose either to relax, take a swim, ride a boat in their lagoon, or enjoy a massage before dinner and a well-rehearsed performance in their banquet hall

Day Two

The first stop of day two is the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory which produces several products including the popular “BomHyangi” (Scent of Spring) line of cosmetic products. We will observe the production and assembly lines and view some of the finished products. Then it’s on to a local park where we can spend some time with locals, participate in games and maybe see newlyweds having their wedding photos taken. Lunch comes next at a local restaurant before heading to the Sinuiju Art Gallery, they have a popular shop selling paintings, ceramics and hand-made souvenirs.

We will take a walk around the newly created visa-free tourism development area along the riverfront which Chinese can now visit visa-free for the afternoon as part of a new initiative to encourage cross-border tourism. In this zone we can view the old Yalu River Bridge which was bombed heavily during the Korean War. Rounding out the itinerary is a visit to Sinuiju Kindergarten where you will see an amazing and cute performance by gifted Sinuiju children. A bus will be waiting to take you across the bridge to Dandong where you will board the overnight train to Beijing.

Direct flights to Beijing and other areas can be arranged upon request as well as private afternoon or day tours of Dandong and the surrounding areas.
