Position Description:

Paektu Cultural Exchange is hiring an intern with a strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, marketing, professional writing, research and project management. The intern hired for this position will require strong critical thinking skills to help develop creative ideas and solutions to unique and challenging projects in a very special region of the world. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in travel, education, meeting new people in an environment where one can develop an in-depth first-hand understanding of the DPRK while gaining a wealth of international experience.This is also a position in which

Paektu Cultural Exchange (PCE) is Canadian-based, a growing social enterprise platform dedicated to facilitating co-operation, trade, investment, and cross-cultural exchanges between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) and international organizations, businesses, and individuals to promote greater understanding, various sustainable and ethical projects, supporting regional peace and relationship-building.


– Developing & maintaining new and current online and social networks

– General outreach and external promotion

– Creative writing on organization activities and topics, themes, and products relating to the DPRK

– Developing and maintaining communication with existing and potential clients

– Public relations with media partners

– Assisting with business development and marketing strategies

– Assisting with organizing and planning aspects of delegations and official projects, including visa applications, research, logistics and other administrative tasks

Qualifications and Experience:

– Undergraduate degree

– Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

– Proficiency in Microsoft office, and relevant internet platforms

– Social Media Expertise in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google+

Ideal Personality and Character:

– A keen interest in travel, meeting new people and exploration

– Passionate about developing a greater understanding of many aspects of the DPRK through hands-on experiences and direct contact and relationship building

– A genuine compassion for people and improving international relations through cultural exchanges and other initiatives

– A strong interest in and passion for exchange and engagement activities with the DPRK

– Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills

– Attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks

– Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Language exchange activities at a middle school in Pyongyang.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience (not mandatory):

– Post-graduate degree, and other relevant life experience

– Chinese or Korean verbal and written communication skills

– Translation experience (Korean or Chinese to English)

– General knowledge of photo & video editing

– Previous travel or work experience in North Korea or other parts of Asia

Academic Backgrounds and Interests:

Marketing, Business, Communications, International Trade, International Relations, Korean or Chinese Languages, Computer Science, Administration, Investment, Economics, among other fields


– Opportunities to learn and practice Korean and Chinese language

– Hands-on experience working in the fields international relations, international business, negotiation, project management, and development

– Opportunities to accompany delegations and business missions to the DPRK

– A benefits package will be arranged to suit individual candidates needs and will be discussed in detail upon serious consideration and can include support for the following: housing, basic monthly stipend and or private DPR Korean or Chinese language classes.

PCE’s Past and Current Projects:

– Organized and planned the 2013 and 2014 Dennis Rodman official delegation visits to the DPRK

– Organized the 2014 international basketball match between the DPRK national basketball team and former NBA players (including Dennis Rodman) and the 2016 Pyongyang International Friendship Ice Hockey Exhibition (PIFIHE)

– Historical restoration projects in collaboration with the Dutch Royal Family’s Prince Claus Fund 2014, 2015, 2016

– Hosting official delegation visits to the DPRK involving public figures, organizations such as: the Asia Society Patrons (New York), the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and various university and academic exchange programs

– Student exchanges from Kim Il Sung University to Cambridge University and Yanbian University (China).

– Photography and documentary filmmaking projects

– Charitable projects supporting the deaf, blind and physically / intellectually disabled

– Trade and investment research, business delegations, matchmaking and investment seminars and delegations

– Tourism, and cultural exchanges involving music, food, film, and sports

NOTE: We may require more than one intern to fulfill these responsibilities, so if you do not have all the skills listed above we still encourage your application. We are interested in hearing from individuals who are willing to relocate to Yanji, China but also those who are able to work remotely. Yanji is a unique city located in North-East China which borders the DPRK and Russian Far East with a large Korean ethnic minority, as well as many ROK and DPR Korean workers and business people.
