About the 2017 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pyongyang Open

In cooperation with the DPRK’s Ministry of Sport, the Table Tennis Association of DPRK, and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Paektu Cultural Exchange is co-promoting the ITTF’s Pyongyang Open table tennis tournament in Pyongyang from August 2-6, 2017.

Interested and qualified individuals can sign up below as competitors and umpires for the upcoming Pyongyang Open, a leg of the 2017 ITTF’s Challenge Series.

The ITTF 2017 Challenge Series will include 5 days of action and will be featured in 11 locations including Belarus, Thailand, Chile, Slovenia, Croatia, Brazil, DPRK, Nigeria, Poland, Belgium and Spain. The minimum prize money being awarded to the participants totals $35 000 (USD), ensuring that the competition will be fierce and that the entertainment levels for the audience will be equally as high.

The ITTF also has an initiative called Development & Education Training Programs that actively promotes table tennis worldwide by creating a structured, sequential and progressive pyramid development and competition structure for athletes, coaches, administrators, and match officials, from beginner level to Olympic Games.

Staged in the city of Pyongyang the 2017 ITTF Challenge Series Pyongyang Open will be held from Wednesday 2nd August to Sunday 6th August.
The official tournament will be preceded by the qualification events commencing on Wednesday 2nd August and concluding on Thursday 3rd August.

Umpire Registration / Nomination

The Table Tennis Association of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea invites International Umpires to officiate at the 2017 ITTF Challenge Series Pyongyang Open.

Staged in Pyongyang, overall, including qualification, play commences on Wednesday 2nd August and concludes on Sunday 6th August.
It is an open invitation. Therefore not all nominations may be accepted.

Accommodation, return flights from Beijing to Pyongyang, local transportation and meals will be provided from Tuesday 1st August to Monday 7th August.
Airport pick-up will be provided to and from Pyongyang International Airport (IATA Code: FNJ). Each umpire will also receive a daily allowance per competition day according to ITTF regulations.

All invited umpires must organize their own transport to Beijing, China as well as travel and medical insurance. In addition, all invited umpires are responsible for early arrival and late departure.

For DPRK visa application, kindly send relevant details when submitting the nomination (full name as in passport, date of birth, place of birth, passport number, the expiry date of passport). A visa will be provided.

Only nominations submitted by bona fide national associations will be considered; a maximum of two applications per national association is requested. Umpires must wear the International umpiring uniforms as described in the Handbook for Match Officials.

Please submit umpire nominations by Friday 30th June 2017, or as soon as possible.

The list of umpires accepted will be advised on or before Wednesday 5th July.
